Company Joint Managing Directors
Ian and Ailsa Thompson formed a landscaping business
in 1993. Ian's background was in earthmoving, mining and civil engineering
projects. Ailsa's was in administration and retail nursery.
"Our landscaping business was within the building industry on commercial building sites. From the beginning we found that it was difficult to find quality advanced trees and shrubs in bags, as a large number were ex ground. This prompted us to consider growing our own whereby we would only produce stock of a high quality and only in bags. After considerable research we created a database of possible stock. This was eventually refined to our current selection. We purchased the farm property in June 1997 and commenced growing trees later that year. The property was previously a hobby farm with horse agistment and was very badly overgrown with Lantana. We can now boast 35,000 trees and shrubs in bags from 25 Litre to 1000 Litre and another 35,000 in tubes and pots ready to progressively be planted into bags. When the farm is fully utilised, it will carry approximately 70,000 trees and shrubs of various sizes ready for sale."
By 2002 the tree farm had grown to maturity and became a viable operation. After much consideration, the decision was made to retire from landscaping and concentrate solely on the tree farm.
In these pages we have tried to answer all the questions
asked of us at various shows and markets and to be as helpful as possible.
Ours is a practical knowledge and we know that there is plenty of alternative
professional advice available.
We must maintain that our information is a guide only. Tree sizes at maturity can vary dramatically depending on location and site conditions. We also sell only from 25 Litre up knowing that this is an established tree or shrub that is guaranteed to survive as long as reasonable care is given.
Mature heights and widths are based on observations in South-East Queensland over many years in normal planting conditions. However, we have observed older trees will attain much larger dimensions in some conditions. Most shrubs and trees can be pruned and trimmed to a shape and size that you require.

| The Mayor, Cr Pam Parker and our local Councillor, Ray Hackwood warmly welcomed us to the new extended City of Logan. | |
At the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards Logan River Tree Farm was awarded the first annual Environment Management Award. This award recognizes the initiative Logan River Tree Farm has taken to find improved ways to assist in managing our precious environment. The Directors of Logan River Tree Farm were very proud to win this award because they do not believe that our industry (horticulture) is recognized enough when it comes to the environment and are happy to share this award with their fellow horticulturists. This is actually the second award that Logan River Tree Farm has won in the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards this year having won the September award for "Best Emerging Business" sponsored by Ausindustry. |
